9-A
EARLY-PALEO
BONE NEEDLE
WINKLER
COUNTY, TEXAS
JAY BLAINE
COLLECTION
This
is not the same bone needle that is shown in the main picture and
"key" but is very similar. The one in the picture was broken in
the same way this one is but was restored. It was discovered laying with a
female burial on the Buhl burial site in Idaho. The burial was carbon
dated at 10,500 years old.
This Needle was found several years ago on a Midland site
about seven miles west of the Shifting Sands site in Winkler County,
Texas.
Although rare, other delicately made bone needles
have been found on other early sites. Two Needles were found on the Agate
Basin site in Area 2 in the Folsom level.
An estimated date for this Needle would be approximately
11,000 years ago. |
