CLOVIS POINT
DRAKE CACHE
NORTHEASTERN COLORADO
Clovis point from the Drake cache.
SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION COLLECTION

This Clovis point is part of a cache of thirteen found in a cultivated field in northeastern Colorado. They were first discovered by Orvel Drake and have become known as the Drake cache. Of the thirteen examples this may be the most colorful. This one is made of a more rare variety of Alabates chert.
Clovis people utilized the most colorful and highest quality stone to make their tools. Evidence of this is seen on Clovis sites all over North America. This example measures 3 1/2 inches long.
