CAREY WEBER'S TOOL KIT This is the tool kit that Carey Weber uses to make Andice points. The long handled tool at the bottom is his pressure flaking "Ishi stick." The long handle gives the knapper additional leverage for pushing off biface shaping and thinning flakes. The "Ishi stick" was named after Ishi, the famous Yahi Indian who wandered out of the California wilderness in 1911 and who used the same type of tool to make his
arrow points. which serves as a platform from which to work off of. The smaller board at the top is used as a hammer to strike any one of a variety of punches during the notching process. The piece of leather is used for protection from sharp flakes and positioning the artifact during the notching process. Also pictured are both round and flat punches that are used in the notching process. The finished Andice/Bell point was made by Carey Weber. |
