These 16 Cahokia "gem points" represent some of
the best examples that have been found at Cahokia.
Most of them are made of semi-translucent red,
yellow and orange Kaolin chert. The point at bottom
center is a rare example of a sharks tooth effigy. Most
of these were made of bone but a very few examples
have been found that were made of stone. The double-
notched and serrated point at top left is another
very rare style of Cahokia point. It was first illustrated
in 1938 in "The Cahokia Mound Group." The longest
point in this group is a double-notched Cahokia point
made of heat-treated Burlington chert. It measures 1 3/4
inches (4.4 cm) long.
