ENGRAVED PLUMMET This is one of he nicest examples of a Poverty Point culture plummet ever found. It's most outstanding feature is the engraving of what appears to be a highly stylized version of a known animal type or some mythological being. It has been described as possibly being an anteater. There are also several engraved rings around the stem just below a nicely drilled hole. This abnormally large plummet measures 5 3/4 inches (14.6cm) long. It's made of a light gray colored piece of hematite that was very symmetrically shaped into one of the classic plummet tear-drop forms.
