     The is a very fine and classic example of a Cahokia style
flared bit spud. It's been illustrated in various publications
over the years. This spud is reported to have been found on
or near the Cahokia Mounds site in Madison County, Illinois.
It's highly polished over its entire surface. This flared bit
spud is made of kaolin chert and it measures 8 11/16 inches
(22.1 cm) long.
