CLOVIS
SLIDE SET
The 140 slides in
this set are the highest quality images available anywhere on this
subject. They describe and illustrate the oldest recognized cultural
tradition in North America known as Clovis. Ninety percent are copied from
first generation slides.
The artifacts used in these pictures are some of the most
important examples ever discovered in North America and were borrowed from
at least 32 different collections. Some of these collections are the
Smithsonian Institution, Museum of the Great Plains, Montana Historical
Society, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, State of Illinois,
University of Wyoming, University of Kansas, Augustana College and many
other institutions and private collections.
This set includes a very easy to understand narrative that
describes each picture. The first two slides begin with maps showing the
continental shelf of Alaska and the south and eastern United States. They
illustrate how these people may have arrived in North America and where
other Clovis sites are possibly located underwater. Other slides show the
best complete examples of Clovis stone and bone tools from ancient camp
sites, kill sites, cache sites and manufacturing sites. The Sheridan Cave
site in eastern Ohio is also represented. Plus pictures of excavations in
progress on a mammoth kill, mastodon kill, cache and camp sites and two
well done drawings of scenes of Clovis people interacting with their
environment.
The artifacts were photographed in the best possible way with
double and triple exposed views. Some are hand held close up pictures of
artifacts while others show large "layouts" of many different
examples. Seventy seven of the original photographs were taken on 4x5 and
8x10 negative transparencies which greatly increased the unique
quality of these pictures.
